Updated Cost-Per-Use of SodaStream

So this January I ran the numbers on how much it cost to use our SodaStream.  I also mentioned that we had figured out that we didn't need to use as much carbonation per liter as we had been using, which will of course affect how many uses we get per C02 canister.

Well!

We just finally finished our current C02 canister, and it turns out we got 88 uses from that one canister!  That's actually pretty darn close to the 90 uses I estimated we could get.  Last time we got 62 uses, so that's 26 MORE liters of carbonated water!

See, the SodaStream instructions on the model we got tell you to keep adding carbonation for '3 buzzes' (the machine will make a buzz sound once a certain level of carbonation has been reached).  Water can only hold so much carbonation, so at a certain point you're not adding more carbonation, you're just wasting the C02.  We finally figured out that the level of carbonation at that first 'buzz' sound wasn't any less than it was after the full 3, so we've been using the lesser amount of carbonation for this canister.

New SodaStream C02 Canister: $30
Liters of Carbonated Water Per Canister: 62
---------------------------------------------
48¢ per Carbonated Liter

New SodaStream C02 Canister: $30
Liters of Carbonated Water Per Canister: 88
---------------------------------------------
34¢ per Carbonated Liter

As you can see, getting more uses from each refill C02 canister makes it much cheaper per use.

So bring on the soda water!
